About

Dr. Thomas Michaels

Finding the right mental health provider can feel overwhelming—but you don’t have to navigate it alone. Whether you’re seeking support for anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, addiction and recovery, relationship challenges, or the ongoing stress of daily life, I offer a steady, collaborative space to help you move forward. I provide individual and couples therapy via secure telehealth, allowing for flexibility, privacy, and ease of access. I am licensed in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Texas, and North Carolina, and bring over 15 years of experience working with individuals, couples, and families. My clinical training took place in New York City and Boston, and I spent many years practicing in the Boston area before relocating to Texas. Now back in New England, I remain deeply connected to this work and the communities I serve. I have a particular focus on supporting individuals in early recovery, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and those navigating loss or major life transitions. My background spans community mental health, emergency room settings, and private practice. Across these environments, I have worked with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, suicidal ideation, grief and loss, and relationship distress. I hold the following licenses: Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor I (LADC-I) in Massachusetts; Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Connecticut; Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) in North Carolina; and Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) in Texas. I approach therapy with the understanding that individual well-being and relationship health are closely intertwined. Together, we explore how stress, mood, life transitions, addiction, and past experiences show up both internally and within your relationships. Whether working individually or with you and your partner, the process is collaborative, practical, and focused on creating meaningful, lasting change—not just temporary relief. For couples, I am a Certified Leader of *The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work* and a Level 3–trained clinician through the Gottman Institute. I work with a wide range of relationship structures, including married couples, long-term partners, and those in polyamorous or open relationships. Couples may engage in ongoing weekly sessions or a structured 10-week program that offers research-based tools to strengthen communication, rebuild trust, and deepen connection. The process begins with a comprehensive assessment, including an online Gottman assessment, a joint history session, and a personalized feedback and treatment planning meeting. For individuals, therapy focuses on gaining clarity around emotional patterns, coping strategies, and relationship dynamics that may no longer be serving you. We build on your existing strengths, identify what hasn’t been working, and develop new, more effective ways of relating—to yourself and to others—so you can create a more grounded, balanced, and fulfilling life. As someone in long-term recovery and a member of the LGBTQ+ community, in addition to my clinical training in both areas, I bring a perspective that is both professional and lived. My goal is to provide a space that is affirming, respectful, and grounded in real-world understanding. I am currently in-network with several commercial insurance plans and am in the process of onboarding with additional carriers. If your plan is not listed, feel free to reach out—I’m happy to discuss anticipated coverage or help connect you with another provider if needed. My priority is ensuring you have access to the care and support you deserve. I look forward to connecting with you and beginning this work together. **Medical Records Requests** Clients may request medical records by emailing [HouseCall02189@gmail.com].
